Chapter 2

Roohi and I were huddled together at a back table in the school library. We weren’t there to read honestly, neither of us were the "leisurely reading" type we were there on a mission. Our math period was next, and in true fashion, we hadn't even started the homework.

We weren't the only ones, either. The tables around us were filled with students, but none of them were browsing the shelves for literature. Instead, everyone was hunched over their notebooks, pens scratching furiously against paper. The library wasn't a place for books today; it was a sanctuary for the desperate, a final pit stop for everyone trying to escape the math teacher’s wrath.
