Prologue

July 2035

“Happy 15th Anniversary, Noor,” he whispered, gently kissing her lips a soft smile appeared and the morning sunlight fell across her glowing features. They lay tangled in each other’s arms, wrapped beneath the warmth of the blanket, “You are so beautiful,” he whispered again, pressing another tender kiss to her lips.

“You say that always,” she murmured, scrunching her nose with a playful smile.

“And I will keep saying it,” he replied, pulling her closer against his chest. “I’ll keep reminding you just how beautiful my Noor is just like her name.” She smiled before resting her head against his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat as his arms held her close.

He woke up with a soft yawn, stretching lazily before turning toward her. “Come on, get ready. Today, we’re making breakfast together,” he said with a playful wink before walking into the washroom.

When he came out, Noor was no longer on the bed. His brows furrowed as he looked around the room, and then he spotted her standing on the balcony, watching the morning sky. A smile touched his own lips as he walked toward her and wrapped his arms around her from behind. He gently kissed her bare shoulder, holding her a little tighter.

“Can’t believe it, Noor ” he murmured, resting his chin against her shoulder. “It’s been 15 years since we got married” His voice carried a quiet sense of wonder, as though even after all these years, he still couldn’t believe she was standing there in his arms.

“Exactly even I can’t believe it, we came so farrr,” she said, dragging the last word playfully as she looked up at the morning sky, a nostalgic smile lingering on her lips.

“I love you, Noor,” he whispered, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead.

“I love you too, Noor ke Noor,” she replied with a laugh, leaning forward to kiss his forehead in return.

Hand in hand, they walked downstairs, Abhay gently holding her wrist as he led her toward the kitchen. There was an boyish excitement in his steps. “First, we’ll make your favourite daal ki kachori and then mine chole bhature,” he announced proudly.

Together, they began preparing breakfast, filling the kitchen with laughter and the comforting aroma of spices. Noor stood nearby, watching Abhay struggle to cut the onions, his eyes turning red and watery. She shook her head with an amused smile before stepping closer and gently wiping his tears with the edge of her white dupatta.

Soon, cooking turned into a playful mess. They smeared flour across each other’s cheeks, laughing like two teenagers who had forgotten the world around them. Abhay was busy stirring the gravy for the chole when Noor quietly sneaked up behind him and slipped an ice cube beneath his shirt.

He instantly jumped, dancing around from the shock of the coldness, making Noor burst into laughter. “Noor!” he exclaimed, grabbing another ice cube and running after her.

She squealed and tried to escape, but he caught her by the waist, cornering her between the wall and his arms. Noor lowered her eyes, trying to hide her smile.

“You are so naughty, Noor,” he teased with a mischievous wink.

Before she could react, he playfully slipped the ice cube against her clothing, making her eyes widen in surprise. “Abhay!” she exclaimed, breaking free and chasing him around the kitchen while he laughed and ran away, their laughter echoing in the house.

Soon, the breakfast was ready. Together, they carried everything to the dining table and arranged the dishes. Noor served food onto both their plates before picking up a bite and feeding it to Abhay first. He smiled as he tasted it, then returned the gesture, feeding her the first bite from his own plate.

“Aww tasty!” he exclaimed, licking his lips before immediately taking another hurried bite.

“Easy, Abhay,” Noor warned laughing at his excitement he slowed down, giving her an innocent look before continuing to eat.

Once they finished eating, neither of them left the other to clean up. Together, they cleared the dining table, gathered the dishes, and washed everything side by side.

“Get ready,” he announced, looking at her with a mischievous smile.

“Ready? Why?” Noor asked, wiping her wet hands on his shirt instead of reaching for a cloth.

“Because today, we’re going to enjoy the whole day together. First, a movie, then shopping, and finally dinner at your favourite restaurant,” he informed her proudly.

She didn’t say much. Instead, her face softened into a beautiful smile as she stepped closer and wrapped her arms around him.

“You’re the best,” she whispered.

“Yes, because my wife is the super best,” he replied pressing a loving kiss to her forehead before resting his chin gently on top of her head.

Abhay came downstairs after getting ready, but Noor was nowhere to be seen. He settled onto the sofa in the living room, knowing very well that she would take her time. She always did, and by now, waiting for her had become a habit and he loved doing it.

He casually scrolled through his phone when the soft jingling of anklets and bangles reached his ears. His thumb stopped mid scroll. He slowly turned his head and for a moment, he forgot to breathe.

Noor stood there at the foot of the stairs, looking breathtakingly beautiful in a red chiffon saree that draped elegantly around her. Her hair was curled and swept back, framing her face perfectly, while long earrings dangled delicately from her ears. Red bangles adorned her wrists, chiming softly with every movement, and the tiny anklets around her feet added another sweet melody.

Abhay stared at her like he were seeing her for the very first time.

His eyes slowly travelled over her, filled with nothing but admiration. He swallowed, unable to find the words to describe what he was feeling.

Noor walked up to him and stopped right in front of him. She gently shook his shoulder, pulling him out of the little dreamland he had disappeared into. Abhay blinked, finally realizing that she was standing right there in front of him.

“You are so beautiful,” he whispered, his eyes never leaving hers.

“You always say this,” she murmured, shaking her head with a shy smile.

“Because you are Noor,” he replied softly. “Every day I look at you, I realize I’m falling even deeper in love with you.”

He stepped closer, slowly reaching for her hand and intertwining his fingers with hers. His gaze remained locked with hers, carrying the same warmth and affection it had held all those years ago as if 15 years had passed, but his heart had never learned how to stop falling for her.

“And every day when I look at you, I feel lucky,” she replied softly.

Abhay smiled, his eyes filled with warmth as he gently traced his thumb along her cheekbone. Noor immediately blushed, lowering her gaze for a moment.

“Aap sharmati hui kitni achhi lagti hain, Noor,” he admired, gently tucking a loose strand of her hair behind her ear.

(You look so good while blushing)

“Achhi nahi aapki lagti hoon, Abhay,” she whispered, looking back at him with pure admiration in her eyes.

(Not good i look like yours)

A smile slowly spread across his face. He squeezed her hand affectionately before intertwining their fingers.

“Let’s go.”

Hand in hand, they walked out of the house together.

“You know, Noor, I think we should buy a bike. I’ve always wanted to take you on a long ride. What do you think?” Abhay asked, helping her settle onto the passenger seat. He carefully buckled her seat belt himself before walking around to the driver’s side and getting in. After settling into his seat, he fastened his own belt.

“Tell me, Noor. What do you think?” he asked again, glancing at her.

She lightly shook her head and gave him a fake glare. “You already have five bikes, Abhay.”

For a second, they stared at each other before bursting into loud laughter.

“I know,” he said with a shrug, starting the bike. “So one more won’t cost anything.”

Noor rolled her eyes, still laughing as she shook her head at her husband’s impossible logic. Abhay grinned, clearly very pleased with himself.

First, they headed out for shopping. Abhay followed behind Noor as she moved from one saree to another, carefully looking through the different colours and designs.

She picked up a beautiful pink saree and draped it over her shoulder before turning toward him. “How is it?” she asked.

“Beautiful,” he replied with a grin.

Noor's eyes narrowed when she realized he wasn't even looking at the saree. His gaze was fixed entirely on her face.

“Abhay?” she called, walking closer before lightly smacking his chest. “Not me, buddhu! The saree!” (dumb)

She held the saree directly in front of his face, finally forcing him to look at it.

Abhay chuckled, taking the saree from her hands. “I was talking about the saree.”

“Jhoothe,” Noor muttered, trying to hide her smile. (Liar)

He laughed, because they both knew exactly what he had actually meant.

“Ye—yeah, good,” he stammered, scratching the back of his neck when he noticed the salesgirls trying to hold back their laughter.

Noor  shook her head and moved on to another saree. She knew him too well by now when Abhay said good, it usually meant the saree wasn't good enough. But when he said beautiful, that was her green signal.

After finishing their shopping, it was finally time for the movie. They settled into their seats beside each other as Hum Saath Saath Hain began playing on the screen. Noor absolutely loved the movie, and even though Abhay usually preferred action films, he never complained about watching her favourites.

Because he loved Noor and if she loved something, then somehow, he had to love it too. So he sat beside her, watching the movie with a smile.not because it was his favourite, but because seeing her enjoy it made it worth watching.

When the movie ended, the hall quickly filled with people heading toward the exit. Seeing the crowd, Abhay immediately pulled Noor closer to him, keeping her safely by his side. Instead of rushing out with everyone else, he stood there with her and waited patiently until most of the crowd had cleared.

“We could have come out earlier,” Noor questioned, looking at him.

“We could have,” Abhay agreed, flicking her forehead gently. “But you saw how crowded it was. Everyone was pushing and shoving each other. I can’t risk you getting hurt.”

Noor rubbed her forehead, giving him an exaggerated look before sticking out her tongue at him teasingly.

Abhay immediately copied her, sticking his tongue out in return.

It was evening, and the sun was slowly setting, painting the sky with warm golden hues as the city began to light up around them. Abhay and Noor wandered through the busy streets hand in hand, taking their time to enjoy the evening together. Noor loved roaming around the city, and as always, Abhay happily went wherever she wanted because when it came to Noor, he rarely knew how to say no.

They stopped at a street food stall, and Abhay held a plate of pani puri in one hand while feeding Noor with the other. She happily enjoyed every bite, her eyes lighting up with delight.

“Now, enough, Noor You’ve already eaten ten,” Abhay said, staring at her in disbelief.

“Only two more, please,” she pleaded, giving him the biggest puppy eyes she could manage.

Abhay stared at her for a moment, trying his best to stay firm but that look that ridiculously adorable look.

He sighed in defeat. “Fine Two more.”

Noor immediately smiled triumphantly, and Abhay shook his head, already knowing he had absolutely no chance against his wife.

“No more, Noor,” Abhay said firmly, giving her a playful glare.

“Why? Do you think I’m going to obey everything you say, haan?” she challenged, raising an eyebrow. “Don’t forget, I’m your wife, and you can’t say no to me.”

Before he could argue, she turned toward the pani puri seller. “Bhaiya, do aur dena!”

(bhaiya give two more)

Abhay shook his head, watching her with an amused expression. He knew there was absolutely no point in fighting with her when she had already made up her mind.

Accepting his defeat, he let her enjoy two more pani puris but that was it.

“No more after these,” he warned, pointing a finger at her. Noor nodded innocently, reaching for the next one.

Abhay sighed, but a smile betrayed him. After all, he could argue with the whole world if he wanted to, but when it came to Noor, he had always been terrible at winning.

“Let’s go for the last one,” Abhay said, offering her his arm.

Noor smiled and happily looped her hand through his arm as they continued walking through the lively streets. After a few steps, she rested her head gently against his shoulder.

“Now what is left?” she asked curiously.

“Something for my beautiful wife,” he replied mysteriously, leaning down to kiss her forehead.

Without revealing anything, he led her toward a nearby beach. By the time they reached there, the evening had settled in, and only a few people were around. The weather had turned gloomy, dark clouds covering the sky while occasional flashes of lightning illuminated the horizon.

Noor looked up at the sky, her face lighting up with excitement.

“It’s gonna rain!” she exclaimed happily.

Abhay looked at her with a soft smile. Even the approaching rain seemed beautiful when she was this happy.

“Do you remember our first rain?” Noor asked softly.

Abhay sat down on the sand and opened his legs, allowing her to settle comfortably between them. She rested her head against his chest while he wrapped his arms securely around her waist, holding her close as they watched the waves in the distance.

“How could I ever forget that day?” he replied with a nostalgic smile. “It’s been so many years, but those memories are still fresh in my heart.”

He gazed out at the sea for a moment before turning his attention back to her.

“I love you, Noor,” he whispered, pressing a tender kiss against her neck.

“I love you too, Noor ke Noor,” she replied shyly, a blush spreading across her cheeks. When he playfully nuzzled against her neck, a sudden shiver ran down her spine, making her giggle and hide her face against his chest.

Abhay smiled, holding her even closer as the first drops of rain began to fall around them.

Abhay’s phone suddenly pinged with a message. He glanced at the screen, and a small smile immediately appeared on his face.

Noor narrowed her eyes, watching him suspiciously. “Why are you smiling at your phone?”

“Come on, get up,” he said, ignoring her question as he helped her to her feet.

Before she could ask anything else, Abhay hurried away, leaving her standing there in confusion. A few moments later, he returned with a small cake carefully held in his hands.

Noor’s face instantly bloomed into a bright smile when she saw him walking toward her with it.

“How many more surprises are you going to give me?” she asked, shaking her head in disbelief.

Abhay stopped in front of her, his smile widening.

“Uncountable,” he answered simply.

Noor looked at him with sparkling eyes, her heart filling with warmth. Even after 15 years, Abhay still found new ways to make her feel like the most special woman in his world.

“Shall we cut it?” Abhay asked, placing the cake carefully on a nearby bench.

They stood together, smiling as they cut the cake, then fed each other the first bites. Abhay gently wiped a little cream from the corner of her lips before leaning forward and kissing her forehead.

“Happy anniversary, Abhay ki Noor,” he whispered with a smile.

“Happy anniversary, Noor ki Noor,” she replied, smiling back as she leaned forward and kissed his forehead.

Abhay closed his eyes, holding onto that moment but when he opened them again, his heart stopped.

Noor was gone.

The space in front of him was completely empty.

His smile slowly disappeared as he looked around, searching frantically for her. His eyes began to fill with tears, and his heartbeat grew louder and faster, pounding against his chest.

“Noor?”

His voice trembled he looked around again, but there was no one he could hear nothing except the frightening thudding of his own heartbeat. His breathing became uneven, his chest tightening as he struggled to understand what had just happened.

“Noor!” he called again, louder this time but there was no answer only the empty beach stared back at him.

"Noor?"

"Noor?"

"Noor?"

"Noor?"

"Noor?"

"Noor?"

"Noor?"

He collapsed on the ground, breaking into sa sob, "Come back Noor" he cried in the cradled of his hand.

"Noor" he shouted his lungs out.

Noor.

"Please Noor I beg you Noor come back to me" he hiccupped.

"Mujhe aisi zindagi nahi chaiye jisme tum na ho Noor"

(I don't want this life without you)

"Abhay adhoora hai Noor ke bina".

(Abhay is incomplete without Noor)
